A few subway stops away exists a whole other world. Chinatown. This is one of the things I love about New York. One minute I can be in Chinatown enjoying the Chinese New Year parade and the next minute I can be up to my eyeballs in cannolis in Little Italy.
Each section is so authentic. So true to their own culture. So true that my daughter is convinced the subway car went under the ocean and we were actually IN China.
Here's a few pictures of the parade:
Happy Chinese New Year!

Look at the sun! Lovely, lovely photos. My daughter and son-in-law are moving at the end of July, and I am looking forward to spending LOTS of time soaking up the neighborhoods.
THose are great pictures! Did you take those with your phone? If so I need to switch to your kind of phone! I love all the vibrant colors and all the decorations. Thats great that you guys were able to go!
Thanks nickerdoodle! I took those with my Nikon D50. I knew there were going to be too many picture opportunities to try and get good shots with my iphone!
Love the pictures...especially the confetti one...too cool! and the one of Lily's face is priceless too. What a great parade!
Fantastic photos -- I'm glad that you got to experience something so quintessentially NYC!
Hi,
Found your blog through apartmenttherapy, I think. Anyway, love your blog. I live in the Boston area so not too far from NYC. But I love the city and try to visit it when I can with my family. I love the fact that you just uprooted your whole family to the city and have embraced it.
Michelle~ Awesome pictures! Wow! You should frame some of these for Lily's room! :) Thanks so much for sharing!
